The Center for the Creative and Performing Arts – located South of the traditional campus on the other side of Midway is envisioned as a facility that will be home for the four Creative and Performing Arts – Film, Music, Theater and Performance – as well as the Visual Arts. The design objective is to create a complex facility as a built expression of the vitality and creativity of the arts, as a living part of the culture and goals of the University – students and faculty. The CCPA project respects the historical Taft Studios and integrates them into the overall concept providing a complex of dynamic contemporary architecture – extending space in all directions – indoor and outdoors. The architectural and spatial language interpretes the qualities of the traditional campus. Mood, atmosphere, feeling - individually addressed - are a main consideration. Both, privacy and communicative exchange, are encouraged – a 3-dimensional matrix of space and uses provides a multitude of options. Fixed functional entities are intertwined with more flexible properties. Today the borderlines between the arts – and especially those to be taught and practiced at the CCPA – are fluent. Artists transgress traditional bounderies – materials and techniques are no longer specific to one art. Presentations of works of art are manifold and vis-à-vis a public of complex interests. This is reflected in the proposed design.
24 hours of activity are foreseen.
