MALI MUSEO DE ARTE LIMA
cultural Lima Peru Municipio Lima
Mali takes place – the New Art Wing is the interface between the city and the Lima Art Museum. The Mali Museum Landscape is a subterranean landscape generating a unique museum space, spatially connected to all needed functions. „Digging down and piling up“ are two fundamental processes of design. Their interaction in the project leads to a sculptural object which contains and encloses the New Art Wing and a public space and also provides an adequate answer concerning the connection to the existing Exposition Palace. The Main Entrance leads the visitor through the Grand Hall of the existing Museum directly to the Foyer of the New Wing placed on the Museum Platform. The Platform is “floating” above the subterranean museum space, provides the entrances to the Café, Library and the Educational Wing, and also forms the Mali Plaza, which is open to public and connected to the Metro Station as well as to the Dammert Park. The overlap of public space, creativity and art is emphasized by the design of the Main Gallery which is underground but opens up to the above Museum platform. It visually shares it´s program with the public and the surrounded functions. Visitors as well as public can cross the site from north to south through the Museum Platform, lead by the Sculptures positioned at the main points of the site providing orientation and information for the whole area.
